'Blackbeard' Moody by Jason Kochis (United States)
Tuesday, May 08, 2007

Talented American freelance designer and artist, Jason Kochis has definitely left his unique mark on the urban vinyl toy movement. He began his art career in the apparel design market. Although he was realizing a certain level of success in the apparel industry, he also continued to develop his style by taking on freelance work by creating eye-catching gig posters for bands such as Superdrag and Daniel Miller. Jason still does t-shirt and poster designs, but has begun to focus a lot more attention on custom toy art. His artistic style is constantly being influenced by retro, urban and tattoo art. The Moody custom he created for Bovinyl's November show at the University of Lethbridge is pure Kochis. His woodland satyr inspired piece contains characteristics of his trademark 'Big Jaw' character. Jason's work has been featured in a number of custom toy shows and was included in the publication 'Art of Modern Rock: the Poster Explosion'. This synoptic book is the "first and last word on the finest rock concert posters of the past fifteen years". Don't be surprised if you see a lot more of Jason's low-brow art designs making their way onto production toys very soon.
